interesting observation.

Last Friday, I was a little early for school and knew I would be waiting for my interpreter. She was always the one who gets there first. If I am on time or early, she would be the one who would be late. That doesn't happen often because I'm always late! Heh!

Anyway, I walked to the 2nd floor lobby and sat down for a few minutes. I shot off a page to my interpreter to inform her I was early. While I was writing the email, I observed a crowd of people bursting out from the elevators and another crowd going up the stairs. I sent the email.

Suddenly, it hit me. I realized it's so sad and pathetic. Fat people take the elevators and slim people take the stairs. I got a page back from my interpreter saying she was leaving a deposit for the tinkle fairy. I saw her step out the restroom next to the elevators. With my famous "you-know-what?" expression, I asked her what I've just realized and informed her of my observations. She agreed and added her observations, too. On campus, she noticed slim people walk on the sidewalks and fat people take shortcuts across the grass.

Okay. Later that day, I was walking along the campus sidewalks. I just noticed that I used to take a lot of shortcuts, and now I am just taking the longer way around. Very interesting observation!

nostalgia.

I was watching the news yesterday and found out University of New Mexico held a Gathering of the Nations for the Native Americans. In one video shot of the event, I saw a group of Native Americans sitting around a large drum in a circle with drumsticks in their hands. That's when I remembered a Deaf event I went to in Utah. They had a survival camp set up by Verl Osmond. The local tribe came over to give us an idea what their culture is like. They had a large drum, sat around it in a circle and started swinging their drums as they sang in their native tongue.

Even though I was categorized profoundly deaf, I could hear really loud sounds just a little bit. I felt awed and inspired by their songs and drumbeats. They blew me away with their raw emotions as they sang with all their heart and spirit! Also, their drumbeats are loud enough to be felt in the immediate area around the large drums. It was a really cool experience for me!

Deaf or hearing, I recommend you to go hang out at a Native American event, concert, and/or festival and check them out!

hidden humor.

The artist who made this poster is very, very clever. It is actually funny.

Can you spot what I'm talking about?

that smell.

Dust storm and that heavy scent.. Desert rain!

I don't know why, but I love that smell. It actually comes from rain falling on this and that.

i don't get it.

I got on the bus and spotted a guy dressed up in brand named clothing, distressed denim pants and white sunglasses. Well, I think he's hot, but the fact he is sporting a Gucci bag, not hot.

Still to this day, I don't get it why people *have* to wear expensive, brand name clothing! People should learn to focus on looking good, not become live, walking billboards for tommy, cK, Gucci, RayBan, Guess, and whatever else you name it.

Sorry, honey.. That bag's gotta go!

a sad evening.

On April 15, 2006, many Deaf Arizonans could hear a high-pitched scream echoing throughout the valley. It was a sad evening for my roommate, Robert.

Analyze the picture. That was on the dashboard of his Mazda 3!

stupid idiot.

I'm such a stupid idiot.

Why? Well, I bought a hamburger in a paper bag then went to a gas station across the street to get money and a drink. I walked out the gas station with my hands full. I was holding money, a receipt, a bag with hamburger inside, debit card and a wallet with a zipper. I fumbled around, trying to get my money into my front right pocket, slip the debit card into my wallet, zip it shut, then slip it into my back right pocket, and rip up the receipt. I realized the drink and bag of hamburger were in the way. So, I grabbed the top part of the brown sack in my left hand with my lips and lifted up the hamburger while I shifted the bottle of soda from my right hand to the left. I finally got my money stashed away, my debit card put in the wallet, tucked into my back pocket, and the receipt torn then tossed to the garbage. Whew! With my right hand, I grabbed the brown bag from my mouth and pulled it down.

Fuck.

Big mistake! Know why? The dryness of the brown paper bag sucked up the moisture from my lips. It naturally dried up my lips. So, when I pulled the bag down, I immediately tasted blood. I discovered the paper bag peeled off some of my lip skin! Now, drops of blood are glistening on the brown bag.

This is the last time I'll put a paper bag in my mouth! Ugh. I guess I can't kiss until my puckers are healed!

a favorite.

It's a family favorite drink. I made this fruit slush for a party yesterday.

Many people told me it was so good. A roommate suggested I put in vodka. Heh!

Which brings me to this question:

Should I become a bartender? And a Deaf one at that?!?

gas prices.

This is pretty nifty.

Just enter your zip code in the site below, and it tells you which gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.

Interpreters at Pride Festival 2006

I wrote an email to the Phoenix Pride Festival committee. It looks like I touched a nerve with someone who recently posted anonymously.

I do not accept anonymous posters who leave one-liners. However, I am up and open to debate!

To the anonymous poster:
What facts am I missing? Should I say nothing? Should I sit back and let hearing people go on uneducated about Deaf people? Why be spineless?? I hope you'll come back and post your point of view.

Moving on.

Earlier today, I spoke with a close friend of mine and she pointed out one thing. I realized that if I posted this email I wrote to the festival committee, I may never work with Phx Pride or GLOW again. I had to pause and think about it for a little longer..

Well, if that does happen, then, it is sad more people in America aren't allowing freedom of speech these days. I don't feel any regret for writing that email. Something had to be said. If not me, who else will do it?

And, pray tell, why do the strong ones who voice their opinions or concerns always get blamed by the weak ones?!

UPDATE: I just spoke with someone from the GLOW committee and got more facts and details. Thank you! It seems that I am never in the "loop".

It appears that the Pride Festival decided to take the easy way out by using a 1st year ASL student, rather than using the list of interpreting agencies GLOW provided to them. Legally, GLOW is not obligated to be part of getting interpreters for the Pride Festival. But, still.. I feel it is our responsibility as Deaf individuals to educate other hearing people about our needs.

Bottom line: It is NO excuse to hire a really bad, underqualified interpreter to do the work!

burn, baby! burn!

Thanks to Markie for this hilarious pic!

office prank.

The new secretary's gonna be mad. Hehehehehehe!

She just started working for the IPP/ASL Dept. I think she's cool.

And she also reminds me of my favorite cousin in Utah... Hmm. I better try going to Utah sometime soon!

a simple change.

Ack! I just wanted a simple change and my blog broke in a lot of places! Please bear with me!

ugh.

Thanks to Cliffie.. Now I am gonna have nightmares after I saw this video!

a thing.

I've always had a thing for shirts that are totally different and has a lot of texture. I was watching "Ichi the Killer" movie, which was a little confusing to watch. Overall, the movie wasn't bad, rather a sad one to watch. Anyway, one of the bad guys had on this shimmering, silver suit and a dark pink, long-sleeved, sequined, button-up shirt. I have to admit, I like the shirt a lot, but don't like it in pink. Pink clothes makes me think of Pepto-Bismol. Yuck.

So, yeah.. If that shirt was only in blue...

mystery.

This is one of those cool, artistic mysteries. Someone spraypainted spiders coming out of the storm drain. It's close by my apartment.

I thought it was brilliant! Just like that artist who painted his self-portrait on billboards and highway exit signs. Remember him?

where's the love?

You are welcome to quote me on this..

During the summer of 2004, I had an epiphany. I had to choose between life as a Gay man or death as a Mormon man. Had my choice was to be a Mormon, I would not be writing this to you!

do you think?

That this is a little too much to use the title: "Little Swimmers"?!?!

258 time.

On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06.

That won't ever happen again in our lifetime.

Hat tip to Bret Cummens for this email!
