01.18.08 - Cloverfield

I cannot wait to see this Cloverfield movie, guys! I hope they do have an open captioned film featured soon as well! Rear view captioning TOTALLY sucks for this kind of movie because there are so much action and a lot of visual effects. Open captioned would be much better choice because I won't have to worry about missing the film. It is such a hassle to try to refocus on the dark glass to see the rear captions and then refocusing on the movie screen to see the film and refocusing on the glass to see the dialogue. You see?? Rear captioning is a pain in the ass! Open captions are the way to go!

UPDATE: Thanks to Bill, here is the link for the open captioned preview of Cloverfield!

a friend's dog is in critical condition, please help!

Recently over the weekend, I received a videophone call from Katherine from Philadelphia. I could see some tears and learned that her 2 dogs may have been poisoned by something they ate, drank or a blockage inside. One of her dogs, Marley, had the worst reaction and is now in the hospital in serious condition. I know how it feels to see a close pet going through pain and the risk of losing that pet. Katherine sent out an email for help and support:

Marley, My Deaf Dog, Is In Critical Condition

As you all know, this is a frightening time where I feel helpless about Marley's critical condition. I feel powerless about trying to save her. She may die and the people at ER are going to do everything to try save her and surgery might be possible. It is a horrible time for me and pray god will spare Marley her life for all the animals I have helped save.

Raychelle has made a post on the blog on Marley's behalf. The post went to deafread extra instead, so please go to www.deafread.com/extra, click on that and vote Marley's post to move it to the front. If you can contribute some $$, be is 5, 10, 20, 100 or whatever, it'll be greatly appreciated and share with others who you feel can help. Here is info about Marley's fundraising:

I ask you to please help Katherine by donating a few dollars or more so she could be able to pay for the hospital bills. Many thanks!!

vlog 0008: thank God for cochlear implants!

I am sharing my disgust with religious fanatics who claim that it was God who made cochlear implants possible. By staking their claim, they are at conflict with their own religions according to their beliefs and scriptures.

UPDATE: I just found Deaf Flower's vlog I was referring to earlier. Check out her vlog!

my vlog signature.

I was somewhat displeased, yet flattered, to learn that various vloggers have ripped off my vlog signature, a sip from my drink right before I start talking about the topic. Anyone who has seen me on the videophone/webcam knows I tend to drink at the beginning or during the conversation. So, it is naturally my vlog signature. Edit: I am the one with tea.

Please keep it mind, that one is mine!

UPDATE #1: Gnarlydorkette has made a vlog about this issue.

UPDATE #2: Apparently, drmzz (Mike) claimed his right to that coffee cup sipping (or not sipping) signature.

There, you have it. Now, we got a coffee sipper and a tea sipper. Who is the soda sipper?

past feelings.

I was reviewing my old blog posts and this one caught my eye. I wrote it on February 6, 2004. In the light of the current issues with coclear implants and speech therapy, it was important to express how I felt then, and I still feel the same today. Enjoy!
Feb. 6, 2004: So, are you saying that if my parents had given me CIs when I was little, the first thing I would 'hear' my parents say would be, "I love you more because you can hear better!"?!

Think again, it's screwed up. What's wrong with parents loving the children regardless of their handicaps, disabilities and/or deafness? I prefer my parents to love me no matter what, than to focus on what is wrong with me! Growing up, I have had some experiences with my parents where it was clear that they were trying to "fix" me. It came to the point that they have been trying too hard with doctor appointments, audiologists and hearing aids. I never had a lot of fun with my parents because they really put too much energy on making me speak perfectly and not allowing me to have a normal childhood. It put a bad strain on our relationship between myself and my family! It won't be any different with cochlear implants. If my parents did put cochlear implants, I would be beyond pissed! Too many parents have this misconception that buying hearing aids or cochlear implants automatically makes their Deaf child(ren) obligated to do what the parents want them to do, having to live their lives through the parents' dreams, realities and high expectations. It has come to the point where life as a Deaf child with hearing aids/cochlear implants reeks of verbal, emotional abuse and near-slavery!

My final point: It is MORE important for me to be understood and loved than to be able to hear and feel "broken"!

where should I move to? and why?

Please keep in mind that I am taking the following into consideration:
  • accessibility with the area's Deaf community
  • standard of living (cost of rent and food)
  • quality of the area's mass transit (I got no car)
  • number of job opportunities
  • quality of college/university and their services
After you make your vote, please comment why you made the vote. I would love to have as much coverage as I can get! Thanks, guys! ;)

I am just angry things are not going the way I want them to happen. Good things always happen to other people... I wish so bad that I have good things happen, someone to love me eve n though I can be a pain in the ass. Someone to inspire me rto do bwtter and the best I could be. But why does it have to be so hard???

It was too funny because the younger daughter was out on the beach when all this happened. What a nice surprise for her to find what's on her cellphone!!

Icon Sets for Harry Potter fans.

From the IconBuffet's site:
"IconBuffet is home to a tasty plethora of free icons. Collect them, download them, trade them with your friends. They're kinda like baseball cards, only without the steroids. And you can use them on your website."
You can get your sets here and here:

But there is a catch! When you sign up for a free account, you will be given 10 tokens and some stamps per month, starting every 26th of the month. Tokens are needed to 'buy' icons from your friends. Stamps are spent when you send an icon set to a friend and that friend bought it from you. Points are collected throughout the trading game. I wish they let the users have 'rollover' tokens, but no, they do not offer that feature. Any tokens you have left, you need to spend it all by the 25th of the month because it will be reset to 10 tokens on the 26th.

Another option, which I use, is to become a VIP member. To be a VIP member, you will need to either pay $6 per month or about $48 per year. You will get more free icon sets, cool tips or insider news, plus 30 tokens to spend per month. Another perk in being a VIP member is you get $25 off any stock icon sets they are selling in their online store. I bought 90 dollars worth of stock icons (3 sets for $30 each) and paid only 15 dollars! Sometimes they send out free surprise stuff online or in snail mail. The tokens reset each month on the day you registered to be a VIP member. Make sure you spend your tokens by the last day! I would stick to being a regular member unless you are totally into icons, sign up to be a VIP member.

The best thing about this site, any icons you got from being an IconBuffet member, you can use it on your blog or website! It won't hurt to have a little eye candy! ;)

my reason?

I have been going through my saved drafts in my Blogger.com, erasing them all and consolidating them into one file. Then I would follow-up on each one. Some stuff are going to be about Deaf issues, Gallaudet, hearing aids, cochlear implants, etc.

Let me start off with a draft post I wrote on October 29, 2006:
"Long before I. King Jordan slipped up and named Jane K. Fernades as the 'President' during the Fall 2005 semester, any of my Gallaudet friends in the past felt hurt and couldn't understand my reluctance and pessimism towards their university. Some even accused me of attacking them because I 'do not appreciate Gallaudet'. I couldn't express my reasons to people who are upset and getting in my face. In light of what happened in the past few weeks, I kept quiet for the most part, eagerly supporting my Gallaudet friends and watching for the news. Today came around and I got an IM from a good friend who is a Gallaudet graduate. I was thrilled out of my mind and delighted that BoT terminated Jane Fernandes! When I heard the news, I knew that Gallaudet will be FINALLY moving forward from its rut and stand-still for many years. I cannot express how big of a relief to find out Jane's out the picture! But at the same time, I am not going to celebrate yet. Why? Who will repair the damage? Who will restore Gallaudet's reputation? Who will fight and ensure Deaf students graduate with degrees worth equal or more than the degrees from other colleges and universities?

For a long time among my peers in Utah and Arizona, Gallaudet had strongly gained a reputation of being a "high school" university. It was embarrassing to me as a Deaf person knowing the fact Gallaudet is a Deaf Mecca! Thanks to I. King Jordan for not doing a damn thing to make education empowering for the Deaf, many students in his 18 years' reign were robbed of an actual college education. Gallaudet's academic reputation is damaged.

The ONLY good programs from Gallaudet that I know of are worth a lot of respect, the Linguistics, ASL, and Deaf Studies. Nowhere else can a person get a comprehensive and depth of study and education in the language of ASL. Gallaudet's the best place to be for those studies!

I'd like to emphasize a line a blogger wrote earlier. That sentence verified my point I was trying to make long before BoT did the selection process which picked Jane last Spring.

rural versus urban: The MSSD gate, the ninth in hell for JKF and IKJ?: "Instead of being creative to keep enrollment levels up, the IJK administration especially with JKF on board for pre-college programs (now known as Laurent Clerc center) and Provost, and now president-designate, they choose to face hard reality and dumb down the quality and resources to keep the federal money running. They should be accountable for their actions and decisions they made."

You read that part IKJ and JKF dumb(ed) down the quality and resources to keep the federal money running?? THAT is the reason I knew I wouldn't appreciate my education if I went to Gallaudet. I need challenges, I want to learn. If education was that easy, I wouldn't do it! It'd get boring for me really fast. I hate slow, easy classes. It insults my intelligence as a college student. If the school's administration on purposely degrade the quality of education all for the money and shit deals for their students, FK that school! I want to go to a college or university who would give a damn and appreciate each and every one of their students!
"

I know this post is now outdated, but more people will have a better understanding of how I felt about Gallaudet and the protests. More events have happened since I wrote this blog post last Fall. Gallaudet is now on probation and could lose its accreditation if their standards aren't up to par. I think this is a good thing because Gallaudet have a window of opportunity to become the best university for Deaf students! Once Gallaudet complete its task in meeting the requirements and standards, I will be eager to submit my application to enroll! I have high hopes and dreams for Gallaudet and for myself as a potential attending student!

High Heel Race - Baltimore Pride '07

The High Heel Race - Baltimore Pride '07

Last Saturday, Neal and his 2 daughters signed my up into the Baltimore Pride's tradition, The High Heel Race. Let me make this as brief as I can. I had the opportunity to watch the race last year, but this year, I was participating! Whoo!

So, the parade officials led me to near the stage to sign a waiver and put on a pair of old high heels. Much to my dismay, those pair of high heels are *gasp* tiny! For a few minutes struggling with the shoes, I felt like one of Cinderella's fat step-sisters. I managed to squeeze in all my digits and heels in them. The announcer started calling out each of the racers' names. Mine came up, strutting out and waving, I curtseyed to the crowd. Luckily for me, there was an interpreter on stage to tell me the "ready-set-go!" announcement. I positioned myself on the starting line and stared at the interpreter. When the announcer yelled, "GO!", I ran the best I could. I think I was last, but I wanted to make it in one piece alive! Holy Hell!! My calves, hips and ass were on fire! I ran back to the stage to change back to my familiar, comfy shoes.

After being in this race, I learned a newfound respect for the women and trannies who religiously wear high heels. I also learned something new about me, I wasn't nervous being in the attention of a large crowd like I was before in the past. Interesting, huh??

Anyway, I posted the pictures to my Flickr account the next day. One of my good friends and my former interpreter, Daniel, posted a comment on my Flickr account, "You go girl! Now you just need to learn to bevel." LOL! ;)

Even though I was pretty tired and bummed out about my Macbook dying on me the night before, I had a fabulous time that day! I hope Neal will be in the High Heel Race next year, and his daughters might help me sign him up!

Muahahahahahah!

vlog 0007: label me this. label me that. and macbook woes.

POSTED 5/3/07: With the past hot issue about being pre- or post-lingually Deaf, badges have sprouted across the Deaf blogosphere. I hesitiated putting one up because I like to be unique. So, I got the template from Banjo and made myself a new one:

That's me at Hedor's baby shower. It's my first time to attend a Deaf baby shower. I wonder if it is different than hearing baby showers.

Are the games different, the topics discussed, timing of the party varies, just for women or could men come?

I noticed men are also invited to Deaf baby showers, but never heard of men going to hearing baby showers. This is something that has been on my mind all week. I wonder if there are any ladies, Deaf or hearing, who could elaborate more on their baby shower experiences.

On a side note, DAMN YOU RIDOR! I was counting on having a good time with you today at your sister's baby shower! :-P Next time, beeotch.

confessions of an amway brat.

I am going to say this - I REALLY despise Amway-slash-Quixtar! I despise multilevel marketing and matrixes with a passion. I was an Amway brat. What does an "Amway brat" means, you might ask? It meant that when I was a kid growing up, my parents have tried to succeed in selling Amway products, recruiting buyers and sales representatives. I know firsthand and have seen upfront with my own eyes, from my parents' experiences, how damaging MLMs and Matrixes can be to everyone involved. The topmost reason why I hate Amway/Quixtar is it reeks of child labor. It is illegal in USA. I have seen parents force their kids to go door-to-door, trying to sell Amway products! In fact, I remember I had to go door-to-door with my brothers and sisters in the middle of the summer, and we lived in Phoenix, Arizona! Can you imagine the heat?!? With all the wrong things going on with Amway/Quixtar, I have to admit there's only one good thing from that company - I still stand by their L.O.C. soap!

Many friends who have joined MLM/Matrixes have often been upset with me because I consistently refused to join any of their schemes. They badgered me with "why?" - "you lose for missing out a great opportunity!" - "you don't know what you're talking about because you never tried this!" - (and my all-time favorite) "I thought you were my friend!" I have seen more friendships damaged or lost because of those fast cash schemes. After all that crap, I have learned to say one sentence each and every time a new scheme is invented, a friend would try to get me to join. I would put on my best smile with a twinkle in my eye and say:

Prove it to me that it works for you and I will join when I see your results!
Guaranteed!

And there are those who aren't satisfied with my answers to why I won't join their scheme. They'd get SO pushy and impatient with me, I'd finally rant at them:

Friends don't *bleep* with their friends' *bleep* and their wallets! So, do yourself and me a big favor - BACK the *bleep* OFF!

I've joined MatrixWatch because my best friend found this forum a few days ago. We were discussing the new team that works with ClubFreedom/RevolvingTravel. There is something different and new about this team. Knowing I would lose 100 dollars, I joined for research purposes and will track the progress into my blog about that group. I want to build a resource to protect the Deaf people's finances. Including Canadian Diamond Traders, Quixtar and Club Freedom, other 'get rich quick' schemes have also easily found their victims among the Deaf community repeatedly, daily, weekly and yearly. I wish I knew the exact amount of money the Deaf community has lost to those MLM/Matrixes/Product Redistributors.

I am constantly sick and tired of finding out my Deaf friends have lost a bundle of money into scams. If you have some information or advice I could incorporate into my personal research and reports, please share with me though PMs. I am trying to decide how to approach this with the Deaf community and create vlogs (video logs) in American Sign Language.

ow.

Hey everyone..

Let you know what happened in the past few weeks.  I ended up in the E.R. in the hospital yesterday.

My eyes have been bothering me for a month, then I started having pressure building up in my eye about a week ago.  It started to hurt a bit about 3 days ago.  Then, yesterday morning, when I woke up, it felt like someone punched my eye so hard.  Blinking and feeling the rawness, I knew right away this wasn't pink eye because there are no crusty residue and the eye didn't have that usual itching.  I went ahead and got ready for school.  During my Health & Wellness class, I asked my teacher out of curiosity what she thought of the spot on my eye.  She gasped, said it is not pink eye and could be an infection of some sort.  Her suggestion was that I am to go to E.R. as soon as possible to get my eye taken care of.  I took the rest of the day off from school so I could go to the hospital.

The hospital visit wasn't too bad.  It was under 3 hours long.  The M.D. doctor said I have Subconjunctival Hemorrhage.  He gave me a paper about it.  It is a result of a broken blood vessel in the white portion of the eye.  It is usually painless (yeah, right - it still hurts!) and may be caused by minor injury to the eye.  Also, coughing, sneezing or vomiting can cause this.  Although it can look frightening, it is not serious and the blood will be reabsorbed without treatment within 2 to 3 weeks.

He didn't prescribe anything.  A nurse took me to the eye institute part of the hospital to make sure my eyes are okay.  The eye doctor gave me some eye drops that dilated my pupils.  I went through a series of tests.  He said my eyes are okay for now, but will need to come back in 1 or 2 months for a vision field test to see if I am in the early stages of glaucoma.  It is odd though on how I got that broken blood vessel.  I didn't cough, sneeze or vomit.  My bowel movements is fine.  I never got hit in the eye nor touched it.  Frankly, I am stumped on how this happened to my eye!  I hope it goes away soon.

I hope my vision comes back to normal with no irritation or pain.  Please remind me in a couple weeks if you want to know if my eyes got better or not.  Anyway, enjoy the pics!

than 1/8th of an inch into the snow!

Yep, rock hard, white, iced-thick snow.

I finally found a great blogging client for Macs which is free. Since there aren't many Mac software out there that are free for use, please be kind and donate to Larry Borsato's efforts in making Bleezer.

a Deaf joke.

Q: Why are there so many Deaf men who happen to be gay?

witch-tittin' it.

It's SO freakin' cold right now! But it is about time I've seen a white, full blanket of snow in Maryland!

The snow is really pretty with the wind blowing. It makes the air look glittery. Also, while I was walking to my appointment and classes, I could see soft tuffs of snow on the trees falling slowly to the ground.

Too bad I'm on my SidekickII! If I had a better digital camera, those shots would look great!

Is it "candid" when you take a self-portrait and you're not trying to

pose? Sometimes I wonder, but what do you think? Could it be possible

or impossible to take a candid self-portrait?

stop motion.

I really enjoy watching stop motion short films! This one is created by Tony and Paul. The story is about 2 friends who became enemies. Tony and Paul worked on this video for 2 months! So, enjoy their final product!

spring cleaning.

It can be such a BIG pain in the ass! But the end result is usually
rewarding. I spent about 15 hours cleaning my old computer files and
burned them to DVDs.

Also, I moved my necessary, daily files to a new 1 GB flashdrive. It's
cheap, I bought it for $20 bucks at Staples! It was supposed to be
around 60 bucks at the regular price. Good deal, huh?!

Soon, I'll be reformatting Neal's desktop computer.. Hope it'll be a
quick one. I have always made it a yearly habit to reformat any
computer I own. It keeps the computer running in tip-top shape and in
better organization. Each time I reformat, I don't add software that
that I don't use or stopped using. It leaves more room for memory.

Thank God for the MacBook! Neal's PC will breathe a little better! ;)

YES! Finally!

Now I'm a Mac man! No more PC!!!

I'm SOOOOOOO thrilled! Got me a new MacBook for school!

Feels great to rejoin the Apple ranks! ;)
