another observation.

Is it just me?? Why are the Deaf teachers current with what's going on with Gallaudet and most of the hearing ASL teachers aren't?!?

258.

That's just sad when many hearing ASL teachers know nothing about audism, Gallaudet's current issues, Jane Fernandes and I. King Jordan.

If you are a hearing ASL teacher, please let me know if you are or aren't aware of what's going on over there at Gallaudet! Thanks!

Are you talking about the protest/sit-in because Fernandes, while deaf, has children who hear and did not learn ASL until she was 23?

Yes, I am talking about the protest/sit-in. But, no, I am not talking about Jane's children. I don't give a shit about her personal life or family. Her personal life is her own business. Where the Hell you get that idea that I'm questioning her children and her learning ASL at 23 years old?!? Look at me, I've learned ASL when I was 20 years old. I can speak very clear. And I can tell you this, I am questioning her professionalism and ability to lead. She has failed miserably as a leader. If she can't work with other coworkers' differences, she immediately fires them. She fired so many people. That is a strong indication that she is not a leader!

My God, it has NOTHING to do with her kids or her learning ASL!!!

So, forgive me for being SO blunt. I am tired of people thinking the protest started because of Jane's "not Deaf enough"! Hello?!?! SHE or HER supporters said it, not the students in the protest and not the Gallaudet faculty members. Prove me where the students and/or faculty members claimed Jane isn't "Deaf enough"?? Get your facts and assumptions straight. It isn't all about her anymore!

About my post - I was saying I've noticed that a lot of HEARING ASL teachers and interpreters do not have ANY idea what's going on with Gallaudet's current situation. They're clueless about it! At the same time, a lot of DEAF ASL teachers are in the loop about the protest/sit-in at Gallaudet. I am questioning why most Hearing ASL teachers and interpreters aren't caring enough to pay attention to the incidents and progress at Gallaudet.

Crystal clear?

I'd like to add another question towards the ASL teachers:

Why teach ASL when Deaf issues and culture aren't followed up-to-date? Ignorance isn't a valid excuse for not knowing what's going on. I feel and believe that teachers have the moral obligation to keep abroad of new information and events.
